I visited Amsterdam for three days I traveled by ferry from North Shields.
The ferry is very lively and is like a holiday in itself, with bars and
even a nightclub and swimming pool.I had the most amazing time. I stayed
in the cultural district where it is quiet and has beautiful parks and
museums. The people are very friendly but beware of the bikes. Cyclists
are the kings of the road and seem to take priority over people and cars.Their
are loads of great cafes and bars for all budgets.Wagamama, pancake places,
thai restaurants, the hard rock cafe its got it all. The museums and galleries
are the best in Europe. The boat rides in the canals make it easy to access
all the places you want to visit. You can jump on and off whenever you
want. The Ann Frank museum is somewhere that you will never forget visiting
and you will probably leave with a tear or two in your eyes. A great city
for a short break.

My husband ,10yr old son and self travelled to Mykonos on the first flights
of the season.
Normally a vibrant island with lots of chic, sophisticated and wealthy
visitors, this was a very different Mykonos.
The island was cooler(meteorically speaking!)quieter,Friendlier,cheaper
and every bit as beautiful.
The beaches had fewer sunbeds but still a great atmosphere with good music
& partying for those that wanted it but not so \'in your face\'.
The cruise ships brought an interesting mix of people from all over the
world to liven the town at night, leaving the next morning to give us the
pick of the gorgeous beaches!
I love Mykonos but definitley May rather than august. The locals are less
harrassed the weather milder and the fares cheaper! One drawback is fewer
buses but hiring a jeep makes it easier to visit all the beaches.

We’ve stayed at the Petit hotel in Fornalutx Mallorca many times
over the last few years.
If you want a romantic, peaceful, laid back holiday this is the place
to go. Don’t expect everyone to speak fluent English, don’t
expect easy parking if you’ve got a car it’s a village,
space is limited!
The Petit hotel is within walking distance of all the local bars, restaurants,
shops and banks. The staff do their utmost to make your stay enjoyable.
You get clean towels and your room cleaned every day extra towels
are available for sunbathing or whatever, Jacuzzi, sauna, swim all
available in the garden of the hotel.
This is rural Mallorca not Magaluf it’s safe, it’s
quiet, there are limited choices in what to do but the scenery is
magnificent and the people of Fornalutx are charming and friendly. Don't
expect everyone to speak fluent English, but everyone will try their best
to give you what you want and make your stay special.
Go to the Bella Vista Tolo & Michelle’s restaurant
for ok food, superb views, good service and clean toilets.
Go to Bar Deportivo in the plaça and get a ‘taste of Mallorca'
- watch the world go by, good
service, reasonable prices from the best barman in Mallorca - Migeul.
C'an Antun's restaurant (the first on the left as you come into the village
from the \'high road\' gets rave reviews in all the tour guide books -
for better service and the same quality of food, go to the restaurant
next door, you can't go wrong - o
nly two restaurants side by side, think it's called Ê Turo.
Don't go to Cafe Med in the square of Fornalutx - it's over-priced and
nothing special. If you're looking for something different to eat - explore
Puerto Soller, you can get a lovely meal at Ses Oliviers on the bay, a
great curry at the Indian restaurant beside the beach, a good Chinese
meal nearby also. Soller too offers different choices - the main shopping
area has a good selection of restaurants - we've tried a few and would
recommend them.
If you do decide to go to Fornalutx, please don't tell too many people
how much you enjoyedit - too many tourists would spoil the experience.
One tip . . if you want to see the island, hire a car. You need to go
to the port or to Soller for public transport.
mike stones sent us this suggestion about hotel upgrades in bangkok
As a regular visitor to bangkok we\'ve found that cheap/often free upgrades
can be obtained at most hotels in the city.
Have a look on the website of the hotel you have booked and find out what
is the next category of room above the one you are booked into, then e
mail the hotel and ask if an upgrade is possible. Tell them it\'s a special
occassion visit, how much you ar
e looking forward to staying at the hotel, how good friends have told
you it is etc., etc., - lay it on a bit!!
You will be pleasantly surprised at what you can get - we once got 35th
floor supersuite with butler in The Penninsular for $40 per night - it
would ordinarily have cost $400 per night.
