Camping and caravan security.
A huge propertion of caravans will be stolen - there are steps to take to prevent this. We've listed some security measures here
1. Locks - every time you leave your caravan lock it. Even if you're
only planning on being away a short time.
2. Alarm your caravan and use it. 3. Keys - do not leave the keys under the rock by the door or on the wheels. This is not a secure method. 4. Shut all windows and rooflights when you're not at the caravan - lock them shut. 5. Take your valuables with you - don't leave anything visible from the outside if you are forced to leave things behind. 6. Keep the vehicle documents safe. Don't leave them with the caravan. 7. Use a UV marker pen (available free sometimes from crime prevention officers at local police forces). Use your home postcode and house number. 8. Make sure the VIN - vehcile number matches that on the windows. If the windows aren't marked - get this done. If your vehicle is stolen is causes the thief lots of trouble. 9. Your brand new caravan should have lots of built in security features.
Ask when you're looking at getting a new one. 10. Make friends with your neighbours. They'll keep an eye on your van whilst you're away. 11. Tracking devices are available. 12. Make sure you have caravan insurance. 13. Encourage the family to all take part in making sure the caravan is secure when you leave it.
With tents obviously its a lot harder to secure things. 1. Mark the tent with your name. 2. Use your car boot to secure items of value - but take as little as possible with you.
