BA flights - British Airways
BA Flights news
Free food and business class status on domestic and short-haul
routes operated by BA will remain on flights from Heathrow, Gatwick
and London City airports only.
Business and frequent flyer passengers will be able to book BA Connect
Plus tickets, including airport lounge access and one-way prices
starting from £110, on flights from these terminals.
BA CitiExpress currently operates from more than a dozen UK airports,
including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester and Birmingham. Countries
served include France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.
Bookings for the new regional services can be made from February
1, with BA Connect starting on March 26.
"We have an innovative service promise for business and short-break
leisure air travellers, offering year-round, one-way prices that
match the no-frills airlines and the added service promise and resources
of an airline of British Airways' size and stature," BA Connect's
managing director, David Evans, said.
BA's regional services have been losing an estimated £30m
a year. Today's announcement effectively means the airline is again
running a no-frills operation - something it has not done since
launching the low-fare Go in 1998.
For the time being, the shake-up under the new BA chief executive,
Willie Walsh, will not involve job losses.
Last week, BA reported a stronger December than a year earlier
as passenger traffic rose 4.7%, led by a rise in premium fare customers
and new routes to India and Shanghai.
